What a Worn Roof Is Doing to Your House
The first thing a storm hits is the roof, and it is the last thing anybody wants to pay for, so most people wait. You do not think about it until it lets you know: a stain on the ceiling after a week of rain, shingles in the yard after a windy night, the neighbor's roof getting replaced and yours looking ten years older next to it.
Our customers usually call after one of three things: a leak after a rain storm, shingles blown off in a wind storm, or a hail storm that put a door knocker on every porch on the street. Barbara called us late on a Thursday night after a leak during the rain.
Why Roofs Wear Out Fast in Central Texas

Spring Hail
It does not have to be big to matter. A hail strike knocks the granules off the shingle and bruises the mat underneath, and the spot goes soft. We find it by walking the roof and circling the bruises in chalk.
Wind Storms
Evident when you find shingles in your yard. Ridge caps along the peak of the roof blow off too, one of the repairs we do most. Jake walks the whole roof, not just the spot you see from the ground.
What We Do on a Roof Replacement
Before you sign anything, Jake explains the installation process at the kitchen table. Every roof gets all of it.
We tarp the perimeter to make clean up easier and protect the landscape around the house.- Remove the old layer of shingles. We won't do overlays.
- Ice and water shield in the valleys, an added value in case of a future claim.
- Synthetic underlayment over the whole deck, which adds value in case of a future claim.
- A real starter strip at the eaves and the rakes.
- Shingles installed per manufacturer specifications using 1-1/4 inch nails.
- Replace or modify the venting system as needed or requested, with new components.
- Extra shingles ordered so the color matches if any are damaged in delivery. Unused bundles go back to the supply house.
- Roll the magnet through the yard and the driveway, blow debris out of any gutters, and clean the entire perimeter of debris.

Roof Replacement Questions We Get Asked
How Much Does a New Roof Cost?
We give you a number after a free look. The price comes from the roof's size and pitch and the shingle you pick. There is no charge to come out, no money to start, and you pay when the job is done. Financing is available if you want to spread it out. If a storm did the damage, your insurance may cover most of it, and we walk you through that before you file.
How Long Does a Roof Replacement Take?
Most roofs are done in one day, depending on the pitch and the structure of the roof. From the day you say go, you are on the production schedule. The order goes in, the supply house pulls it, we check the weather, and the material is delivered a couple of days before and stacked on the roof if possible.
What Happens With My Deductible?
You pay your own deductible. Texas law requires the deductible to be paid on replacement cost benefit insurance claims, and Texas law prohibits contractors from covering or waiving your deductible. A roofer who offers to is billing your insurance company for work that is not being done. Deductibles are per storm date, so if hail hits again next month, it applies again. Jake walks you through the claim when he comes out.
Which Shingles Do You Install?
Primarily Owens Corning, and GAF on request. We offer the same products as we put on our own house. Both makers certify us as installers, which is what lets us offer the manufacturer's extended warranty, available on request. Ask when we come out and we will show you the shingle on the sample board before you pick a color.
What Happens to My Yard?
